Canister filters remove the water from a tank through an intake tube and run it through filter media found in the filters' pressurized canister. The filter then pumps the water back into the tank. Canister filters are very low maintenance, requiring rinsing and a carbon change after approximately 6 months, and are much better suited for medium and large aquariums than power filters are. The Astro 2210 is a great external canister filter, very quiet, perfect for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums between 60 and 80 gallons.
